Description

The Gillissen Kotter is a 14-meter long and 4-meter wide steel motor yacht, built in 1974 at the Hitters shipyard based on a design by the renowned yacht designer Gillissen. This vessel is a classic example of Dutch yacht building from the 1970s, featuring a robust round-bilge hull and a functional layout focused on comfort and ease of use during longer stays on board. Dimensions and Construction With a length of 14 meters, a width of 4 meters, and a draft of 1 meter, the Gillissen Kotter offers ample stability and space for both inland waters and sheltered coastal areas. The 4-meter air draft makes the vessel suitable for a large part of the Dutch waterways, including bridges with limited clearance. The hull is entirely made of steel, contributing to the ship's strength and durability. The standing height inside is 2 meters, providing a comfortable living space, even for taller occupants. Interior and Accommodation The accommodation is designed for comfort and functionality. There are four fixed berths and six additional berths available, making the ship suitable for larger groups or families. The interior space includes a dining area, mattresses, a kitchen with a stove, oven, microwave, refrigerator, and freezer. Additionally, there is a shower, hot water, and an electric toilet connected to a 1500-liter holding tank. The water tank also has a capacity of 1500 liters, making the ship suitable for longer stays on board. The onboard heating is via hot air, enhancing comfort during colder days. Thanks to the insulation and enclosed superstructure, the ship is usable for a large part of the year. Propulsion and Technology The Gillissen Kotter is equipped with a 170 hp DAF 1160 inboard diesel engine. The engine, with six cylinders, is electrically started and from the same year of construction as the ship (1974). The engine has approximately 6,000 running hours and consumes an average of 8 liters of diesel per hour at a cruising speed of 12 km/h. The maximum speed is 18 km/h. The fuel tank has a capacity of 1500 liters. The boat features an electric bow thruster, facilitating maneuvering in harbors and narrow waters. Steering is done via a wheel from the inside helm station. Navigation instruments onboard include an autopilot, depth sounder, compass, and VHF radio. The boat is equipped with an electrical system with 220V and 24V systems, shore power connection, battery charger, alternator, inverter, voltmeter, and solar panels. There are five batteries onboard with a total capacity of 600 Ah. A Yanmar generator with a capacity of 100 provides additional onboard power supply, useful during longer journeys without shore power. (this needs to be checked) Equipment and Deck Gear On deck, the boat features a teak deck, bimini, sprayhood, davits, cockpit table, pulpit and pushpit seats, swim ladder, fenders, and lines. The anchor gear consists of two anchors with chain and a manual anchor windlass. A notable feature of this vessel is the aft deck that descends via two stairs. This design was chosen for practical reasons, making it easy to board at different dock heights and, for example, to unload bicycles ashore. Technical Condition and Maintenance The boat was last out of the water for maintenance in 2025, including applying antifouling. There are some points of attention, including the condition of the paint, the functioning of the generator, and the autopilot which are not operational. The engine is operational. History and Usage The Gillissen Kotter has a personal history. The ship was originally designed and built by the current owner's father, in collaboration with Gillissen. The boat has since remained in the family and has been used for various purposes such as leisure cruising, holidays, weekend trips, and commercial use. Summary The Gillissen Kotter is a characterful motor yacht with a rich history and a solid foundation. With its spacious dimensions, functional layout, and extensive equipment, the ship offers great potential for boating enthusiasts seeking a classic steel motor yacht with room for personalization. Thanks to the ample accommodation, large tanks, and technical amenities, the vessel is suitable for longer stays on board and a wide range of cruising areas.
