Sailingboat for sale
Description
Bids accepted! Meteor is the name of the 5 classic yachts that Kaiser Wilhelm II sailed with. The first of the 5 yachts was from 1887 and the last was built in 1914. The emperor was a sailor and participated in the big ones like Cowes week and Kieler Woche. The chalppen Meteor IV bears the same name as its mother ship. The saloon and schooner were designed by renowned German yacht builder Max Oertz and both built at the Germaniawerft in Kiel in 1909. A local marine engineer from Svendborg named Jørgen Ludvig Barchalia bought the chalupa in southern Jutland and installed the current steam engine. We don't know what engine was originally in the chalet. The steam engine is from 1892 and built at the naval shipyard. The story goes that Barchalia bought the steam engine for a bottle of whiskey! Meteor sailed for a number of years on Svendborgsund and has been based in Skovshoved for many years. The chalupa was most recently restored in Skovshoved at Nordbjerg.
