Description

For sale on behalf of the customer is this well-maintained two-mast gaff cutter named -ISLABORG- from approximately 1959, which has been in private ownership since delivery, serving as a "yacht with special charm." Dimensions: Length: approx. 14.50 m LOA: approx. 18.75 m Beam: approx. 4.65 m Draft: approx. 2.35 m Weight: approx. 30 tons The -ISLABORG- is the last built fishing cutter of a series of twelve, designed by the Danish designer Kjeld K. Rasmussen and originally intended for the Greenlandic Fisheries Ministry. -ISLABORG- was designed for Greenlandic waters, evident in its very high and curved stem, which is different from the normal Northern European design. Additionally, the yacht has an inner planking that gives it additional rigidity and stability. Its original purpose was for purse seine fishing. The development of trawl fishing since 1956 with highly motorized trawlers meant the end for this type of cutter, so the -ISLABORG- was not taken over by its original buyers. The ship was never used for fishing and found its purpose as a private yacht. History: Around 1970, the ship was acquired by an English owner who had it completed or finished at the shipyard -Andersen & Ferdinansen- in Gilleleje. Since around 1971, the ship sailed in Scottish waters under the name -ISLABORG-, derived from an uninhabited and protected island in Scottish waters where a (island) castle - ISLABORG - used to be located. It carried the fishing registration CN 48 at that time and was mainly used for pleasure trips. Around 1978, the ship was sold to Oban in Scotland. Nothing further is known about this period. Around 1980, a German owner acquired the ship and had it converted and refitted for private use at the Peter Bieritz shipyard in Friedrichskoog. Around 1984, another German owner took over the ship, restored it to its original condition, and maintained it. The ship was also exclusively used privately during this time. Around 2002, the -Islaborg- was acquired by a German owner in Greifswald, who modified the ship to its current state. During this time, the ship received its current rigging. Since 2012, the ship has been owned by the current owner, who has also used it for private trips such as holiday cruises.
