Description

For sale for new adventures; a ship that has proven itself. No words, but actions. Designed and built for and by one of the key figures in the Dutch maritime industry and remaining in the family for 35 years, this yacht has undertaken voyages that most only dream of. The "Blauw", formerly "Nepos", was constructed as a sea vessel in yacht format; watertight compartments, a self-righting capability up to 135 degrees, over 10,000 liters of diesel and 3,000 liters of drinking water, and a (real) range of 3,500 nautical miles at 8 knots (with a 25% safety reserve), making crossing the Atlantic (and Pacific) oceans easily achievable. The almost infinite collective experience with seafaring of the designer(s), owners, and builders is distilled in this yacht. The yacht was built by Shipyard De Lek, based on a design by A. Volker, refined and detailed by/for D.L.H. (Dick) Smit, and christened in May 1978. After 35 years in the family and numerous voyages, it was purchased by its current owner in 2013. He had a refit carried out to enhance the (living) comfort and reduce maintenance sensitivity. A new Kabola boiler was installed, all kitchen appliances were renewed and expanded, living spaces and the owner's cabin were restyled, and a 7 kW Whisper generator and a 3500 Watt inverter were added to the already impressive power supply. The guest cabin in the aft ship has been converted into a modern walk-in shower (with underfloor heating) and a large walk-in closet/dressing room. This can easily be converted back to accommodate 1 or 2 sleeping berths with a small investment. Additionally, the yacht was equipped with an entirely new paint system in 2019, and the teak decks were replaced with a professional anti-slip paint system. The wheelhouse, witness to the many voyages, has been kept as original as possible. The refit aimed to make living on board comfortable without compromising the yacht's original qualities. The current owner and his wife lived on board for several years (even with snow and ice on deck). The voyages made include (but are not limited to): a round Atlantic trip from the Netherlands to the Azores, Bermuda, Wilmington (USA), intra-coastal waterway to Annapolis, Philadelphia, New York, Greenwich, Halifax (Canada), Newfoundland, Greenland, Iceland (Reykjavik), Faroe Islands, Caledonian Canal with Loch Ness, and back to the Netherlands. Furthermore, in random order, trips to Northern Europe (Zeebrugge, Dunkirk, London, Cowes, Oban, Inverness, Aberdeen, Cuxhaven, Kiel), Scandinavia (Svendborg, Thyboron, Kristiansand, Bergen, Larvik, Oslo, Marstrand, Aalborg, Copenhagen, Visby, Norrköping, Stockholm), Atlantic coast (Honfleur, Cherbourg, Guernsey, A Coruña, Lisbon, Puerto Banus), and the Mediterranean (Alicante, Mallorca, Barcelona, Marseille, Nice, Monaco, Portofino, and Sardinia). As mentioned, this list is not exhaustive. The yacht has a functional layout; the exceptionally spacious aft deck seamlessly transitions into the wide side decks with high guardrails. In the aft ship, there is a garage with storage for parts and sailing inventory, accessible via a hatch. The foredeck features various (escape) hatches, providing separate access to the fore ship if one wishes to sail with professional crew. The superstructure has a wooden entrance door and two folding windows, allowing the wheelhouse to be completely opened at the back. Under the overhanging roof is a sheltered L-shaped bench with the various escape hatches from the spaces in the aft ship below. In the wheelhouse, there is a substantial L-shaped bench (with heating plate underneath) and panoramic views. Through the watertight door, a few steps down, one enters the salon, equipped with a galley at the same level (semi-open kitchen) and a comfortable U-shaped seating area. The fore ship (usable as crew quarters) has a shower/toilet and a forward cabin (with watertight door) with two beds. Access to the engine room is also from the fore ship, again through a watertight door. Moving aft from the salon, to starboard are the boiler room, a laundry room, and a toilet, and to port is the dressing room with walk-in closet and walk-in shower with underfloor heating. Across the width of the ship, at the stern is the owner's cabin with a very spacious freestanding bed. Further features of the yacht include an AEG washer and dryer, Etna dishwasher, very spacious aft deck with garage and lounge set, compressed air via compressor, pneumatic windshield wipers to prevent compass deviation, ample seating in the wheelhouse, wide safe side decks with high guardrails, fully openable aft facade, 4 x double professional bollards + 4 x single bollard, folding mast with support sail, escape route/escape hatches for all cabins, CVO, handrails around the superstructure and in the interior, aluminum mast, foldable with electric winch, workbench in the engine room with tools and spare parts and gasket sets. The yacht comes with complete documentation including the full set of technical drawings, a comprehensive logbook, an updated engine room manual, valid CVO certificate, and an almost infinite amount of stories, adventures, and historical material. It will be delivered with VAT Customs Declaration, Certificate of Examination, the complete archive, all sailing inventory, and a thorough explanation/handover. For inquiries and/or to schedule a viewing of this exceptional yacht, you are welcome 7 days a week at Elburg Yachting.
