The Ramrod was built in 1959 by Port Hamble in Hamble-le-Rice (United Kingdom) for Selwyn Slater and R. McLoughlin. The yacht was drawn by Arthur C. Robb (1908-1969), who had already drawn the cutter Uomie for Selwyn in 1954. The Uomie distinguished itself by its good handling and took part in the three largest ocean sailing competitions of that period: Fastnet, Bermuda and Sydney-Hobart. As a further development of the Uomie, the racing yacht Ramrod also had excellent sailing qualities. In 1959 the yacht won the second edition of the Admirals Cup, together with the two other British boats Myth of Malham and Griffin II.

The Ramrod is built in Makoré (a durable tropical hardwood of the Sapotaceae family) on oak trusses. The hull shape is a traditional long keel with a lead keel. The rudder is attached to the keel.

Ship in exceptional condition, s-frame. Double-hulled construction, riveted. Boat is almost dry. New aluminium mast. Cutter rigged, extensive sail wardrobe, sailomat windvane steering system.

This special classic race ship is now for sale. The hull and deck have been fully restored by the current owner and are therefore in excellent condition. With careful treatment this ship can last for decades. There is a separate steering cockpit in the back and a cockpit for the crew further forward. Below deck are first two dog cages and two benches, then the chart table to starboard and the galley to port. Further forward are two longitudinal benches with a table in the middle, then the toilet and in the front a double cage in a V.

New Nanni diesel, 37 hp.

Comment broker: Superbly designed classic wooden competition yacht, sailing heritage.
